The Hidden Costs of Perfectionism

On the outside, perfectionists seem to have it all together. And we do, but what other people don't realize, is how much we give up to maintain the illusion of perfection.

Perfectionism: Thief of Time, Joy & Success

Listen in here or continue reading below...

The first thing we give up is time. In order to make sure everything is perfect we work and re-work every thought and action, over and over and over again. We do this on the front and back end of every encounter with someone or before and after we complete a task. If we are not strategizing and trying to control what happens prior, we are replaying what did happen, over and over again in our mind.

The second thing we give up is Joy. Perfectionists don’t know the meaning of the word – spontaneous. We are worried about how we look, how we sound, what others will think. We worry about what happened yesterday and what will happen tomorrow. Living in Joy requires living in the present moment and we simply don’t have time for that.

The third thing we give up is success. The minute we achieve something, the bar gets moved higher or farther out. There is no such thing as success. There is always a way to improve. In the end we use up more of our precious time, beating ourselves up about how we could have done or said it differently (and by differently I mean better). And the cycle continues.

Are you tired of giving away some of the most fulfilling things in life, in your unending pursuit of perfection?

If so get in touch with me to talk about a complimentary strategy session to talk about ways to reclaim the time, joy and success you deserve.
