Hitting the Wall - Rethinking Change

Written by Melissa D. Cope on Sunday, 07 August 2016. Posted in Business Leadership, Main Blogroll Page, How to Change Your Life

Invariable when my clients start to work on the internal changes that will move them forward exponentially in their lives, all the old assumptions, interpretations and limiting beliefs rear their ugly heads. We like things that are routine and familiar.

How do we get over the wall?

Like the acorn that has to shatter apart to birth the giant live oak inside, Change requires work and sometimes even struggle. Our folly is that as a society we have equated struggle with hardship. And when we encounter it, we retreat to the routine and familiar.

I often wonder how closely the skyrocketing rates of depression and anxiety can be associated with people who are living lives of wasted potential due to their fear of Change.

What we need to recognize and embrace is that struggle can be liberating and empowering and help us accomplish things we care about.

What if we started believing that Change was –

Easy! and Exciting! and Fun!

Think about one area of your life you would like to change.  What would happen, what would you do differently if you believed that making that change would be easy, and fun and exciting? How would making the change affect you, your family, your community and the world?

As you move forward in your journey of personal growth – find a friend, a colleague or a coach who can be your accountability partner. This is critical to moving through those inevitable moments along the way, when familiar looks better than forging ahead.
